Yesterday was an interesting way to return from vacation.
Al Jazeera, the Middle East’s version of CNN, called to have me comment on gun control in the wake of the mass shooting at Oikos University in Oakland (which was a double connection for me because I have shopped in the grocery store where the alleged gunman surrendered).
The interviewer was lightly pushing a common gun control meme, with a typical disbelief that America (land of the free) was not instituting knee-jerk gun control (creating the land of the un-free). But to her credit, she was not evangelical (can I use that word to describe someone with a high probability of being Muslim).
I kept the discussion sane by affirming that crazy people do crazy things, and that gun control tended not to make these folks less crazy (shooters, not Al Jazeera anchors).
