If irony and serendipity married, they would take up residence in Washington D.C. to have oodles of congenial company.
Today’s example of how coincidence comically collides comes in part from the Clueless California Caliph, Senator Dianne Feinstein. After a small handful of occasionally antique American firearms were found in Mexico, Dianne declared “It is unacceptable to have 90% of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers, mayors, kidnap innocent people and do terrible things come from the United States.” As has been shown, this 90% declaration has the accuracy of a drunk’s stroll.
Amusing it then is that another 90% estimate appears in one of the thousands of Wikileaked diplomatic cables. According to the diplomat, though not verified by anything in particular, 90% of armament Mexican security forces seize from cartel gunmen comes from Central America. The cable in question was written after three bilateral conferences on arms trafficking were held over an eleven month period spanning 2009 and 2010.
This makes a great deal of sense. After all, the cable notes that “…only 125 Mexican immigration officials monitor the 577 mile border with Guatemala.” With Columbian cocaine needing a migration route, driving it north through a border with one agent for every 13 miles of territory (assuming that each agent works one shift seven days a week) is a reasonably risk free method.
Doubly so if the Guatemala border guards are members of drug cartels, as they are elsewhere in Mexico.
So Dianne, opine not on topics for which you have demonstrated ignorance, and instead follow-up with your friend Hillary Clinton and her leaked cables. Perhaps she has real information that you can use.
